Daily Walk

Take a walk, every day for 30 days

Daily exercise is important. Or so I heard. So now I will try and get some more fresh air, while also moving this old carcase, to better my health, as well as practising consistency.

The Plan

For the next 30 days, I will do my damndest to get out on a small walk, every day. The idea is to walk at least 10 minutes, but of course some days should be longer walks as well. Anything less than 10 minutes, is not really exercise, and does not count.
I already know, that some days are going to be a struggle. Not the walk itself, but rather convincing myself to get off the couch, and start moving. Especially if the weather is bad, I'll have a hard time going out in the rain. But that is the essence of the challenge: Staying consistent, and showing up, especially on the hard days.

Given that it is only a 10-15 minute commitment pr day, it shouldn't be a problem though. I can easily take walks, both before and after work, or even over lunch, if I feel like I need a break. The challenge is really more with motivation than finding the time.

I have taken the first walk already, today (the 23rd of March), and will be completing the challenge on the 21st of April.

The Motivation

To give myself a small incentive to keep going, and not miss any days, I have decided to pledge Dkk 1.000,- (Conversions*) for each day I miss, during the 30 days. The money will go from my personal savings account, and be donated to a worthy cause. I am currently considering cancer research or some organization that supports children in need. An example that covers both of those is the Children's Cancer Foundation.
Feel free to send suggestions on Discord.

With this setup, if I manage to walk every day, I won't have to pay any money (I already supported the Children's Cancer Foundation a few weeks ago though) after the challenge. But if I do no more walks for the rest of the challenge, I will have to pay Dkk 29.000,-. While I do have the funds for that, it will be a significant setback on my savings, and I will have to change my financial plans quite a bit, to rebuild those savings over time.

Join Me

If you want to practice consistency and get some exercise, you can take up the challenge as well. You can start any time you want, but preferably the same day as you read this, whenever that will be. I do not expect you to pledge your life savings, but I will recommend you find some way of motivating yourself, either with rewards, or consequences. Whatever works for you.
If you want to participate, let us know on Discord, in the "Challenge Submissions" channel. Then we can help each other stay on track, and celebrate our wins together.

I would also love to hear your ideas for organizations, that I can donate to, in case I miss some days, along the way.
If you have ideas for other challenges I (or we) should take on, those are also very much appreciated.
